The DEAWRA is currently holding elections for Officers and Board Members. We are looking to fill 3 Officer positions and 2 Board positions.

NOMINEES

President 

Juni Shahjabin Alam  (GPI)

Ms. Alam has been a member of DEAWRA since 2016 and has been on the Board of Directors and Events Planning Committee for the past year. She had also been a member of the NJ AWRA from 2006-2011, where she was actively involved in their Events Planning Committee as well. In addition to her involvement with the DEAWRA, she serves on the Board of Directors for the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary.

Ms. Juni Alam is a Professional Engineer with over 12 years of experience in engineering consulting. She is currently a Project Manager in the Civil Engineering Group with Greenman-Pedersen, Inc. (GPI). She has been working in their Delaware office for two and a half years now and had previously worked for over 3 years in their Maryland office. She has extensive experience in water resources engineering, including stormwater management and stream restoration and has worked on various design projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Her design experience includes but is not limited to NPDES compliance, green infrastructure design, bioengineering and natural stream channel designs, soil erosion and sediment control design, pollutant loading analysis, wetland mitigation design, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, and cost estimation.

She holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Civil Engineering and a Masters of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering. Ms. Alam attended Universities in Pittsburgh, Jordan, and England. She is a well-travelled engineer with Professional Engineering licenses in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C.


 Vice-president

Brittany Sturgis  (DNREC)

Brittany has been on the Board of Directions of the DEAWRA since 2014 and has acted as the Vice President since 2015. In her professional role, Brittany is the Chesapeake Bay Program Coordinator for the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) where she serves as the scientific expert and coordinator for the Department.
She is responsible for coordinating the implementation of pollution control best management practices (BMPs), tracking and verification of BMPs, estimating pollution reductions and reporting to EPA, developing and implementing Watershed Implementation Plans, performing field work, and preparing, administering and satisfying federal grant requirements.
She regularly participates in Chesapeake Bay Program committees and technical workgroups to develop and refine strategies, organize implementation projects, and provide technical support and policy guidance for activities within the Chesapeake Bay.

 

Secretary

Stephanie Briggs  (Cardno)

Ms. Briggs is an Officer (current Secretary) of DEAWRA and Co-Chairs the Events Committee.

Ms. Briggs is a Project Scientist at Cardno, located in Newark, DE. She has 20 years of experience in the field of environmental science, with extensive experience in field investigation including wetland delineation and permitting, habitat assessments and restoration and environmental sampling. Ms. Briggs provides project management and strategic technical support primarily for the Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) practice, including ecological injury assessments using Habitat Equivalency Analysis (HEA) methodology, evaluation of restoration alternatives, and planning and design of restoration projects and monitoring programs.

 

Board Positions (Choose up to 2)

 Emily Seldomridge (DelDOT)

Emily is the Environmental Program Manager II with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) program at the Delaware Department of Transportation. Emily brings experience in implementing MS4 permits, compliance with drinking water and wastewater regulations, as well as watershed management and water resource planning.
Prior to living in Delaware, Emily spent 5 years in Texas where she developed a watershed plan and played an active role in developing the State of Texas Water Plan. Emily possesses a Doctorate in Geology from the University of Maryland, a Master’s degree in Marine-Estuarine-Environmental Sciences from University of Maryland, and Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Environmental, Marine Science from Salisbury University.


Sara Esposito, P.E. (DelDOT)

Sara has been the Program Engineer for DelDOT’s NPDES Program since 2016. There she coordinates the maintenance of DelDOT’s 500+ stormwater management facilities, as well as assists with MS4 compliance, the development and implementation of watershed restoration plans, and the compliance of DelDOT’s 17 maintenance yards’ industrial NPDES permits.
Prior to joining DelDOT, Sara worked for DNREC for 5 years in the Drainage and Sediment & Stormwater Programs and started her career as an engineer with Element Design Group, a small land development consulting firm. She is a 2005 graduate from the University of Delaware with a Bachelors in Environmental Engineering.
Though originally from New England with a brief time in North Carolina she now calls Milton, DE home.  Sara and her husband built their house, and now horse barn, which is hopefully done soon so her daughter stops asking “when are the horses coming”!
